A new platform for delivering siRNA is described by S. Lee, X. Chen, et al. in their Communication (DOI: 10.1002/anie.201105565). Multifunctional, self-assembled, polymeric nanoparticles composed of biodegradable hyaluronic acid, for selectively targeting tumors and cell penetration, and a phosphate-binding Zn(II) -dipicolylamine analogue, for high siRNA binding affinity, provide simultaneous delivery of small-molecule drugs along with siRNA. This system offers additive and synergistic therapeutic effects.
